Lilly Prairie’s Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) 2018 Students of the Year Fundraising Campaign

Please, I know lots of you have been touched by cancer.  Some of us have family or friends who have won the battle and some who have lost.  I am challenging everyone to consider donating today.  If everyone who reads this donates 10 dollars each along with a quick prayer for healing, imagine how much love could be sent to this sweet girl’s fundraising efforts.  I am donating today.
Thank you,
Deb Winiewicz

I am excited to announce that I have accepted the challenge to compete in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) 2018 Students of the Year fundraising campaign! Every dollar I raise supports the LLS mission to cure Leukemia, Lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and Myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

This is especially meaningful to me and my family, as my mom recently completed treatment in her on going battle to manage Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia, or CLL. CLL is a type of cancer that starts from cells that become abnormal white blood cells in the bone marrow. The cancer cells start in the bone marrow, and migrate into the blood.

Students of the Year is an exciting leadership development and philanthropy program in which high school students participate in a fundraising competition to benefit LLS. Candidates are judged solely on a philanthropic basis and the candidate who raises the most funds during the seven-week campaign period will be awarded the title of Student of the Year.

To date, LLS has funded more than $1 billion in blood cancer research that has led to a doubling and tripling of survival rates in the last 60 years.  Last year alone, they funded approximately $50 million worldwide, including $2.59 million in multi-year research projects here in North Carolina. My mom is a part of one of these clinical trials at Duke Medical Center, and she is on the drug Ibrutnib, which LLS has helped to fund.

I hope you will help me save lives by donating and sharing this news with everyone you know who might want to make a difference. My goal is to have fun reaching out to everyone I know to raise awareness and life-saving funds, in my mother’s honor, for LLS to continue their important work.

I hope you will join me!
